In this edition of trailer madness, we have quite the mix of films and in no way do they have any similarities. While the vast majority of the films we will take a look at will never see a theater and will be released via VOD and/or BLU RAY/DVD, there are some gems and deserve a watch once released.
First up is a film that I really had no idea was being made and it makes sense as it was suppose to be a made-for-TV film until Toronto picked it up for their festival this week. Underground is one of what I’m assuming will be many films about the life of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange and his real life exploits as a young hacker in Melbourne.
Directed by Robert Connolly the film stars Anthony LaPaglia, Rachel Griffiths, Callan McAuliffe, Laura Wheelwright, Jordan Paskopoulos and Alex Williams. While I’m not familiar with most of the cast, the trailer does look a bit promising but I’m not sure how it made it to Toronto.
Unless Underground just blows people away at TIFF, I wouldn’t get your hopes of the film making its way to the states. That being said, there is no release date for the film/made for TV movie.
Next if you are a fan of the Death Race franchise, then you are in for a real treat. The story continues with Death Race 3: Inferno and it brings back some of the cast from both the first and second films. In DR3: Inferno, the popular Death Race is transported across the globe to the unforgiving and rugged terrain of South Africa where Frankenstein – the greatest Death Race driver of all time – takes on this ultimate challenge to not only save himself, but his pit crew, as well.
Much like the prior films expect some sick race scenes and a ton of action and death sequences. Returning to direct the series again is Roel Reiné who directed the second film as well. Also returning from the second film are Luke Goss, Danny Trejo, Ving Rhames, Robin Shou, Tanit Phoenix and Fred Koehler.
Death Race 3: Inferno is set for VOD and DVD sometime in early 2013, so be on the look out!
Finally, I saved what I feel is the best for last. Last year a horror film made its rounds on VOD and select theaters called Grave Encounters. Basically, it was a POV film about a team of ghost hunters who spend the night in an abandoned mental hospital and soon realize the staff and patients of the hospital never left. It was a great little VOD film and for a horror had some decent shock scenes. Now, The Vicious Brothers are back with Grave Encounters 2 in which we learn that the first film was just a TV show and now a group of kids want to visit the actual location and see for themselves what is really going on inside. Basically, the kids soon realize that they should never have sneaked in and that the place is actually haunted and are now have to fight for their lives and escape.
Based on the trailer, the films looks much like the first film which is perfectly fine because I really enjoyed the first one. Hopefully the sequel delivers and gives us an even more detailed look at the crazy things that went on when the mental hospital was open.
Unlike the prior two films above, we actually have a release date for Grave Encounters 2. It will hit VOD October 2, 2012 and will be released in select theaters on October 12.
Now before you go, I have one more quick little snippet for you to take a gander at. Though they are hard at work on their next film Inside Llewyn Davis, The Coen Brothers wrote another film for Michael Hoffman titled Gambit. It stars Colin Firth, Cameron Diaz, Alan Rickman, Stanley Tucci, Tom Courtenay and Cloris Leachman.. The film is sort of a remake of the 1966 film which featured Michael Caine and Shirley MacLaine. Here is a brief synopsis of the Coen’s version.
An art curator decides to seek revenge on his abusive boss by conning him into buying a fake Monet, but his plan requires the help of an eccentric and unpredictable Texas rodeo queen
While I don’t have a trailer for you, I do have two posters along with a short little snippet from the film. Just a heads up there are about 3 other films mixed into the clip so be aware that Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and what I think is Russell Brand are not in Gambit! You can check out both below. Gambit is set for US release sometime in 2013.
