What do you get when you put Simon Pegg and Nick Frost together? Shaun of the Dead. What happens when you throw Seth Rogan’s voice into the picture? The obvious answer is that you get an action comedy about an alien named PAUL. If that wasn’t your first thought then I don’t know what to tell you, knowing that answer would be like knowing the answer to why Indiana Jones 4 was ever made.
Anway, there is a new movie coming out about an alien who escapes Area 51 and asks Frost and Pegg for help during their uber geek vacation to the states. As Paul puts it, “it’s a matter of life and death!” Which to me means one thing, a great alien comedy. The teaser trailer looks pretty damn good and so far, rather promising, so I’d suggest hitting the jump to check out Pegg and Frost in a comedy that diverges from their typical style.
Paul, which is written by Frost and Pegg, is directed by Greg Mottola, the same guy who brought us Superbad, and stars Jason Bateman, Jane Lynch, Sigourney Weaver, Kristen Wiig, Bill Hader, Jeffrey Tambor, and Blythe Danner in addition to Frost, Pegg, and Rogan. It will be released on March 18, 2011.
Below you will find both the official plot synopsis and teaser trailer for the film.
Official Plot Synopsis:
Simon Pegg and Nick Frost reunite for the comedy adventure Paul as two sci-fi geeks whose pilgrimage takes them to America’s UFO heartland. While there, they accidentally meet an alien who brings them on an insane road trip that alters their universe forever. For the past 60 years, an alien named Paul (voiced by Seth Rogen) has been hanging out at a top-secret military base. For reasons unknown, the space-travelling smart ass decides to escape the compound and hop on the first vehicle out of town—a rented RV containing Earthlings Graeme Willy (Pegg) and Clive Collings (Frost). Chased by federal agents and the fanatical father of a young woman that they accidentally kidnap, Graeme and Clive hatch a fumbling escape plan to return Paul to his mother ship. And as two nerds struggle to help, one little green man might just take his fellow outcasts from misfits to intergalactic heroes.
