When people ask me what films they should see, I always bring up the movie Oldboy and tell them that it will blow their mind. It’s one of the two films that got me hooked on foreign films and why I love Asian cinema so much. The director of that crazy movie is Korean native Park Chan-wook who will be making his English language debut on March 1st, 2013 with his new feature, Stoker.
I have been eagerly awaiting this trailer for quite some time and am very happy that it’s finally here. It may not be the best trailer I’ve seen but it is very dark and very stylistic, something which Park has mastered over the years. You can feel the tension and suspense that the movie has in just two and a half minutes which leads me to believe that the trailer is holding back and that American audiences will be in for something special when this hits theaters next year.
Stoker, which stars Mia Wasikowska, Matthew Goode, Dermot Mulroney, Jacki Weaver, and Nicole Kidman, made the 2010 great screenplay’s black list and was written by Prison Break star Wentworth Miller.
Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think of Mr. Park’s US debut.
After India’s (Wasikowska’s) father dies in an auto accident, her Uncle Charlie (Goode), who she never knew existed, comes to live with her and her emotionally unstable mother Evelyn (Kidman). Soon after his arrival, she comes to suspect this mysterious, charming man has ulterior motives, but instead of feeling outrage or horror, this friendless girl becomes increasingly infatuated with him.
