Movie Buzzers has been following the production of V for Vendetta director, James McTeigue’s latest thriller, The Raven, which follows “A fictionalized account of the last days of Edgar Allan Poe’s life, in which the poet pursues a serial killer whose murders mirror those in the writer’s stories,” according to IMDB.
John Cusack (Being John Malkovich) stars are the legendary writer who seems to be portrayed as a badass (perhaps comparable to Robert Downey Jr.’s portrayal of the crime-fighting fictional icon Sherlock Holmes?). Also starring in the movie is Alice Eve (Entourage) as Poe’s wife Emily, and Luke Evans (Immortals) as Detective Emmett Fields.
Having recently seen John Carpenter’s In The Mouth of Madness for a film class, my interest in a writer’s work gruesomely coming to life is quite heightened. However, I have much bigger hopes for The Raven to set an example of how the darkest of fiction can become a gripping reality because of the powerful influence a writer has over their readers.
Back in July, Chris contributed an article on the film’s stills. Also check out Alex’s first look as Cusack in character, striking an uncanny resemblance to the author of such classic macabre / mystery tales like “The Tell-Tale Heart,” “The Murders in the Rue Morgue,” and “The Fall of the House of Usher.” In addition, his poems, including “Annabel Lee, “Lenore,” and “The Raven” have been made famous in high school and college classroom all over the country, which is why the movie is so aptly titled.
I’ve seen the trailer all over television, but the movie won’t be released until March 9th 2012. Perhaps from now until then, there will be a slew of new trailers to come out to keep us entertained!
