When I was helping out at the 2010 New York Film Festival there was one film that Iwanted to see more than any other film, including The Social Network, and that was Benjamin Heisenberg’s The Robber (Der Räuber). I tried so hard to find time to watch it or borrow a screener but, in the end, I never got to check it out. Instead I heard the press talk about how great the film ended up being. Luckily I’m a patient man.
Yesterday, an english subtitled trailer for the film was released and has me itching to go out and attempt to see it once more. The movie is based on the true story of Johann Kastenberger, a man who lived a double life, one as a champion marathon runner and one as a serial bank robber. It’s too crazy of a concept to be make up and the fact that it is based on true events makes it all that much more exciting.
The movie hits theaters in NY and LA on April 29th and will probably expand a little after that. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think.
You can watch it in HD over at Apple or in regular quality below
Synopsis:
A champion marathoner leads a double life as a serial bank robber, sprinting between fixes (and away from police cavalcades) as many as three times a day. Based on the real-life story of Austria’s most-wanted bank robber of the 1980s, Benjamin Heisenberg’s thriller is a lean, visceral study of pathological compulsion, featuring a riveting central performance by Andreas Lust (REVANCHE).
