One of the film’s I’m really interested in seeing when I head to Austin for SXSW is director Junya Sakino’s road trip comedy, Sake-Bomb. The name of the film is what made me take notice of the feature, the synopsis drew me in, and the trailer guaranteed that I would have to watch this film, especially since I’m one for films about culture clashes, a topic I studied at one point.
The film stars Gaku Hamada (Robo G), Eugene Kim, Marlane Barnes, and Josh Brodis. The trailer for the film isn’t that funny but when you read between its lines you see the potential for an entertaining comedy of self discovery, sake, and love. Take a look at the trailer below and let us know what you think and if you plan on seeing it down in Austin (if you’re going).
Sebastian is a bitter, self-hating wannabe Internet star from Los Angeles who has recently been dumped by his girlfriend and is looking for someone new. When his cousin Naoto, a quiet sake maker from Japan, shows up to find his own ex-girlfriend, Sebastian reluctantly takes him to northern California to find her. The two cousins are a clash of cultures waiting to happen – it’s just a matter of who will break first. Along their journey, the pair meet a colorful group of characters as they come to grips with who they really are and who they want to be.
