There were a bunch of films at this year’s SXSW film fest that I wanted Graham to see on behalf of Movie Buzzers and one of those films was Bart Layton’s The Imposter, a documentary about the story of a 13 year old boy who went missing and was then found three and a half years year later in Spain, only to return home to people who eventually began to question his identity.
Though we haven’t been able to see it ourselves, I’ve only heard absolutely amazing things about this film and this trailer just gets me even more excited. There is a beautifully orchestrated mash-up of actual home video, interviews and nicely produced re-enactments/scenes that’ll leave you wondering what is real, creating a variety of twists and turns that are bound to shock audience members.
Take a look at the synopsis and trailer below and be sure to put this one on your radar. Let’s hope Indomina Releasing gets this film in theaters sooner rather than later.
Nicholas Barclay
Nicholas was 13 the day he disappeared (June 13, 1994). He would have been 16 and 8 months when he was reported found in Spain (October 7, 1997)…
In 1994 a 13-year-old boy disappears without a trace from San Antonio, Texas. Three and a half years later he is found alive, thousands of miles away in a village in southern Spain with a story of kidnap and torture. His family is overjoyed to bring him home. But all is not quite as it seems. The boy bears many of the same distinguishing marks he always had, but why does he now have a strange accent? Why does he look so different? And why doesn’t the family seem to notice these glaring inconsistencies? It’s only when an investigator starts asking questions that this strange tale takes an even stranger turn…
Documentary meets Film Noir in a true story, which has the twists and turns of a thriller. Told in a cinematic language that combines documentary and stylized visualizations, perception is challenged at every turn. Just as the truth begins to dawn on you, another truth emerges leaving you even more on edge.
