Yesterday we learned that Hasbro had intentions of doing more Transformer films in the future and the question became who would direct and who would star. They mentioned that they were in talks with Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg to come back to the franchise, but nothing more has been stated besides talking.Well, not even 24 hours later we are getting word that a potential new star might be cast for the next films and that the 4th and 5th film might shoot back to back.
Variety broke the story that screenwriter Ehren Kruger has an idea for two more films and that they are currently looking for writers to come on board. The reason to film them simultaneously is that it will save money in the long run due to the visual effects, contract negotiations and will also provide more time to design and create the toy tie ins.
They also reported something many of us highly expected and or anticipated, that Shia LaBeouf would not be returning to the franchise. Not that big of a shocker since the Sam story line has kind of ran its course, but the interesting thing is that they are interested in getting Jason Statham to star in the next set of films, though no formal offer has been made.
Both filming of the 4th and 5th back to back and Statham coming on board are a drastic change for the franchise so we will have to wait and see how this all plays out. If Bay doesn’t come back to the franchise, will we see more of a reboot of the films or will they try and keep the same look and feel as the previous three? Luckily, there is a bit of time so expect a ton of rumors to start spilling out over the next year or years about stars and story lines for the Transformers universe. Why not take a break from the movies and create a really kick ass cartoon series like the ones back in the 80’s???
