Before Transformers: Dark of the Moon hit theatres, Michael Bay, Paramount and Hasbro all said this was the final film in the Bay trilogy and if they dId decide to do more films, they would probably go with another story line that didn’t involve Sam Witwicky. Well things changed, sort of, and yesterday Paramount announced it has plans for a fourth film and that it is currently scheduled to hit theatres June 2014 as well as a potential fifth film.
This is huge news for fans of the franchise who left the last film craving for more, but the news didn’t stop there. MTV was able to speak with producer Lorenzo DiBonaventura and here is what he had to say about who would be returning to the film.
Michael’s going to direct it, and it’ll be in the summer of 2014. We’ll be releasing it [then]… I think the challenge there is we really are going to do a reboot there, and what that’s going to be we don’t even know yet.
So now we know that Michael Bay will continue his rein as the Transformers director for at least one more maybe even two films. When DiBonaventura was asked about cast members returning he has the following to say.
No, it’s so silly. We gotta get a story first. You can’t pick characters until you have a story. It’s a funny thing, it’s not… what I perceive Spider-Man to be is just a redoing of the whole thing. It’s not [that]. It’s an evolution, there’s still continuity that’s going on. There’ll be a lot of new cast, whether there’s anyone from the first we don’t even know yet. The truth is, there’s going to be a whole new story. The characters that will come along will be Optimus and Bumblebee, I’m sure.
So what has Bay had to say about this breaking news? He took to his personal website and released the following press release regarding the recent news.
FIRST UP FOR THE PROLIFIC FILMMAKER IS “PAIN AND GAIN” STARRING MARK WAHLBERG AND DWAYNE “THE ROCK” JOHNSON, FOLLOWED BY A NEW INSTALLMENT IN THE HUGELY POPULAR “TRANSFORMERS ” FRANCHISE, TO BE RELEASED ON JUNE 29TH, 2014
I have to say good for Michael Bay for getting his passion project finally under way. I am a bit disappointed that Bay will be tied up now until 2014 because that means no Bad Boys 3 ’til at least 2015 if at all. It should be interesting these this year to see what kind of rumours come out about the Transformer film as well as casting announcements.
