Last year when Tron: Legacy hit theaters, rumors started flying that there would be a third film along with an animated series (Tron: Uprising) and also a ride at Disney World to come in the next few years.
We have since learned that the animated series will debut sometime in 2012 and has been in production for sometime now and so has the ride. Tron 3 on the other hand has been very hush hush and seemed to have been in limbo due to the mediocre performance of Tron: Legacy. So how do you find out about a rumored film’s current status when the Disney executives won’t talk about it? Have a fan at the D23 convention ask TRON himself Bruce Boxleitner, star of the first two films.
The video was brought to light by the team over at Ain’t It Cool News, who found the video on Youtube of a fan asking Bruce about the TR3N. His response, ” It’s a done deal” and will be released in 2013!
Lets slow down there Bruce for just one moment and think about what you just said. First off yes the film has hired David DeGilio to pen a script. Second, it’s not like Tron is a simple film to make due to the heavy CGI aspect of it. Granted at the end of the second one * SPOILER ALERT* Sam (Garrett Hedlund) and Quorra (Olivia Wilde) make it out of the grid and are walking around in the real world, but one would have to think that they will have to go back for something. So while Bruce seems to be pretty certain the film will be ready to go by 2013, I for one don’t think it is possible and would say a 2014 or 2015 release is more likely if it does get a green light.
