If there was one person in Hollywood today that could deliver a performance that earned the Legendary John Wayne his one and only Oscar, I’d have to say it would be Jeff Bridges. The Dude, who recently won an Oscar for his country singer role in Crazy Heart, will be playing Marshal Reuben J. Cogburn in The Coen Brothers’ next film, True Grit. For those that have already known about the film I bet you haven’t seen the trailer for it yet. Not only is this remake/adaptation trailer beautifully shot, but it looks like the film won’t harm the reputation of the 1969 classic starring The Duke. Behold the glory of western retribution after the jump.
The last film I plan on seeing in theaters in 2010 just so happens to be this star studded western starring Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, Josh Brolin, Barry Pepper and Hailee Steinfeld. With the Coen Brothers directing an all star cast, there is no doubt in my mind that this film will not only be nothing short of outstanding, but it will probably be nominated for an Oscar while also pleasing all the adults of America who greatly miss The Duke. You can check out the official synopsis and trailer for True Grit right below this line.
Official Synopsis
Fourteen-year-old Mattie Ross’s (Hailee Steinfeld) father has been shot in cold blood by the coward Tom Chaney (Josh Brolin), and she is determined to bring him to justice. Enlisting the help of a trigger-happy, drunken U.S. Marshal, Rooster Cogburn (Jeff Bridges), she sets out with him — over his objections — to hunt down Chaney. Her father’s blood demands that she pursue the criminal into Indian territory and find him before a Texas Ranger named LeBoeuf (Matt Damon) catches him and brings him back to Texas for the murder of another man.
