Here comes the new trailer from the king of martial arts choreography himself, Woo-ping Yuen. Maybe you have heard of him. He is the action choreagrapher for great films like Fearless, Unleashed, Kill Bill vol. 1 and 2, The Matrix trilogy, Kung Fu Hustle, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and has directed movies such as Iron Monkey and Drunken Master. Now he is bringing us this awesome new movie called True Legend (Su Qi-Er) starring Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), David Carradine, Man Cheuk Chiu , who plays the lead Su Can, and Jay Chou (Curse of the Golden Flower) who plays the ‘God of Martial Arts.’ Check out the trailer after the jump.
As a huge fan of martial arts films this one seems like it’s going to fill the void between realistic chinese epics and fantasy. Watching the trailer reminds me of Drunken Master only without the comedy and with the addition of some fantasy type characters. The trailer has a shit load of fighting, including the famous (and cool) drunken boxing style as well as one of the best asian actress in international cinema.
The movie is about Su Qi-Er, a wealthy man living during the Qing Dynasty who loses his fortune and reputation as a result of a conspiracy against him. After being forced out onto the streets, Su dedicates his life to martial arts and reemerges as a patriotic hero known as the “King of Beggars.”
There is no US release date yet but you can rest assure that I will be there when it does hit theaters. Focus Features was one of three listed producers for this movie which means that there is a chance it will eventually hit the states. If there are any updates I will keep you all posted but for now enjoy the trailer.
