The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles finally have their martial arts rat master Splinter and it it’s definitely an odd choice, or one that isn’t exactly top of mind, little man actor Danny Woodburn. You might not know the name but you definitely know his face as Danny Woodburn has appeared in films like Mirror Mirror, Seinfeld and Watchmen. He joins the cast alongside the turtles, Alan Ritchson, Pete Ploszek, Jeremy Howard and Noel Fisher, Megan Fox who’s playing April O’Neil and Will Arnett whose role is currently unknown.
If we are to assume that Splinter is going to be animated like the turtles then there is a good chance that Woodburn will only voice the character and handle the motion capture for his walking role while someone else will handle the mo-cap for the action/training sequences (since he doesn’t seem like the kind of guy who could handle that).
At this point only one more key role seems to be left and that would be the main villain Shredder (it better be him), maybe his minions too if they have talking roles.
Despite what Alan Ritchson, who i‘s playing Raphael, says about the film and online rumors, I still remain very skeptical about the movie. It’s obviously going to be a very comedic movie but I don’t trust all of the comedic players and the people handling the film don’t necessarily have the best track record for this kind of feature (Bay excluded as he is always hit or miss). The nice thing is that he does say that what we are reading online is wrong which leads me to believe that the turtles are no longer aliens. I hope that is true because that will calm me, and a lot of other fans, down a lot.
The Michael Bay produced, Jonathan Liebesman directed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will storm into theaters on June 6, 2014.
