I’ve never seen a Tyler Perry movie nor have I ever wanted to. Every time I see a poster for one of Madea’s movies I just assume its as bad a looking at a poster for Adam Sandler’s Jack and Jill. That being said, I was excited when I heard that Tyler Perry was cast as detective Alex Cross, a massively popular character from James Patterson’s novels. Granted, I also have never read an Alex Cross novel nor have I seen the prior films where Morgan Freeman played the character, so I couldn’t say if they are good but from what I hear sound right up my alley. Plus, I just want to see Perry act.
Today, the first trailer for Alex Cross arrived on the net and it looks pretty awesome. The film is directed by Rob Cohen, the guy who directed xXx and The Fast and the Furious (original), and it stars Matthew Fox, who looks ridiculously crazy as the villain, Rachel Nichols, Edward Burns and Jean Reno. Fox is most likely to steal the show and I’m unsure about Perry’s acting but luckily I can’t compare it to Freeman’s past performances, which wouldn’t help Perry’s case.
Take a look at the intense trailer below and let us know what you think? Will Perry pull it off or did they make a mistake not casting Idris Elba in the lead role?
“Alex Cross” follows the homicide detective/psychologist (Tyler Perry), from the worldwide best-selling novels by James Patterson, as he meets his match in a serial killer (Matthew Fox). The two face off in a high-stakes game of cat and mouse, but when the mission gets personal, Cross is pushed to the edge of his moral and psychological limits in this taut and exciting action thriller.
