VOD Overdose is Movie Buzzers’ coverage of video-on-demand developments and upcoming films premiering on video-on-demand. With an increasing number of studios embracing VOD as a way to premiere and distribute films, this column covers movies that might be worth a look even though they aren’t playing at your local multiplex.
Latest VOD News
The online My French Film Festival, which made many recent French films so far unavailable in the U.S. available on VOD, grew 25% in viewership in its third year. This success means that it will be returning next year for a fourth year, so if you’re a fan make sure you write January 17 – February 17, 2014 on your calendar!
Speaking of the international reach of VOD, two major companies have signed deals to expand their reach. HanWay has signed deals with a variety of international distributors to offer its impressive collection of films — including movies by Woody Allen, Bernardo Bertolucci, David Cronenberg, Clint Eastwood, Alfred Hitchcock, James Ivory, Martin Scorsese, Ridley Scott and Bob Rafaelson. Likewise, Tribeca — which distributes some of the best VOD movies out there — will finally make its films available on VOD in the UK starting this month.
