You may or may not have heard that Johnny Depp is one of the producers on Martin Scorsese‘s upcoming 3D film Hugo Cabret. But until today there was no indication that Depp was going to actually be in the film. However, ComingSoon.net is reporting that a French newspaper has revealed the above photo and the news that Johnny Depp will play Monsieur Rouleau, an artist who has a small part in the film. Despite what the photo above seems to indicate — featuring stars Chloe Mortez and Asa Butterfield in the foreground — it’s reported that Depp‘s role is more than just a background cameo.
This is cool news, but not what I expected as the first-ever Scorsese/Depp collaboration. I think I speak for almost all film fans when I say that I hope these two gentlemen will team up on another project in the near future!
Hugo Cabret, based on Brian Selznick’s bestselling novel “The Invention of Hugo Cabret,” stars Asa Butterfield, Chloe Moretz, Sacha Baron Cohen, Jude Law, and Ben Kingsley. It’s set for a November 23 release.
Excited for Depp‘s role in the film, no matter how small? Tell us your take on it in the comments below!
