Remember a few years back a little film came out entitled In Bruges? It’s a film that even non-film buffs go gaga over and one that seems to have catapulted Colin Farrell back into the spotlight. While everyone commemorates the acting and story, no one ever remembers the name of guy who both wrote and directed the film, Martin McDonagh. Well I’m pretty sure after his next film McDonagh will be a name people shant soon forget.
To follow-up his Oscar nominated film, McDonagh has just cast Sam Rockwell, Christopher Walken, Mickey Rourke and his lucky Irish star, Colin Farrell in his new film, Seven Psychopaths.
the story for Seven Psychopaths is as follows: A screenwriter (Colin Farrell) struggling for inspiration for his script, ‘Seven Psychopaths’ gets drawn into the dog-kidnapping scam of his oddball friends Billy (Sam Rockwell) and Hans (Christopher Walken).
When a psychopathic gangster’s (Mickey Rourke) Shih Tzu goes missing, Marty finds he has all the inspiration he needs, as long as he can live to tell the tale.
I think this film just made my top 10 list of must-see films for 2011? Not only is the cast ‘effin dynamite, but the story just sounds like comedic gold, especially with the talent supporting it. Seven Psychopaths is currently in pre-production and is set for a 2012 release.
What do you all think, does this sound like a good follow-up for writer/director Martin McDonagh?
