If you are thinking, “How is this possible”, you are not alone!
The LA Times recently did a story about Warner Brothers executive Jeff Robinov and his views for the future. In the story it discusses his plans for the after Harry Potter era, which he states will be the rise of the DC Universe.
From the LA Times:
He’s then aiming to release new “Batman” and “Superman” films in 2012 and “Justice League,” a teaming of DC’s top heroes, in 2013.
With Ryan Reynold’s Green Lantern set to hit theaters in June, could this be the stepping stone towards a Justice League film? We know that there are plans to have Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises as well as Zach Synder’s Superman: Man of Steel hit theaters by 2012, along with a new Wonder Woman television series, but these don’t seem to fit into a Justice League scenario. Christian Bale has stated numerous times that this will be his last go as Batman and doesn’t plan on portraying the Dark Knight any further, so in the very least they will have to recast Batman yet again.
2013 seems awfully soon to be coming out with a Justice League film. No one has seen a script, nor has there been any casting done for the film, so how is this going to be possible? I know some people might say, “Well Matthew Vaughn was able to do X:Men First Class in very little time!” Yes, this is true but this is the Justice League! You cant just slap something together and hope it works. It has taken Marvel years and years to get to The Avengers along with 5 films leading up to it. I just don’t see how you can jump straight into a huge superhero movie like this without some buildup or storyline blending.
Maybe there will be a special Easter Egg in Green Lantern that will hint at a Justice League, but I just don’t see that happening.
Let us know what you think about the Justice League possibly happening in 2013.
Update: The LA Times Hero Complex has added more information to the recently published article about Robinov. He states that the Justice League is his top priority right now and if everything goes as planned it should hit 2013.
Robinov also said,
a new Justice League script is in the works. Also being written for Warner are scripts featuring the Flash and Wonder Woman, who could be spun off into their own movies after Justice League.
and to answer questions about the future of Batman,
We have the third Batman, but then we’ll have to reinvent Batman…Chris Nolan and [producing partner and wife] Emma Thomas will be producing it, so it will be a conversation with them about what the next phase is.
I don’t know much about Robinov, but if he can pull this off, he will be a studio god in my book.
