Well this is some terrific news if you ask me. According to the Chinese press via Kung Fu Cinema, The Weinstein Company has picked up the North American rights to Donnie Yen’s latest Chinese epic, The Lost Bladesman, a film that I have been following, and dying to see, for quite some time.
The film, which is directed by Siu Fai Mak and Felix Chong (Infernal Affairs), opened in China last week and begs the question, how long will it take before it gets its North American release. The Weinstein bros are notorious for their slow release of Asian films, heck, they still haven’t released the US-Chinese co-production of Shanghai starring John Cusack yet. I am begging them to do Asian film fans a favor and at least let the movie screen at the NY Asian Film Festival since it would be a great opportunity to build more anticipation for the film with an english speaking audience.
