The movie world is buzzing about the Superman: Man of Steel reboot, directed by Zack Snyder (Sucker Punch), and set to star British actor Henry Cavill (The Tudors). However, for a female lead, producers of the exciting superhero movie are not looking to fulfill a Lois Lane type, but they are focused on finding a villainess. Hit the jump to see who’s in talks for the part!
The character of the female villain is named Ursa. She is from Krypton and was originally featured in the first two Superman installments in 1978 and 1980, played by Sarah Douglas. Total Film offers a little background info, who is “an accomplice of General Zod.” The website also alludes that General Zod will “also be a villain on duty” for this latest project. In Monday’s article, The website references Latino Review for talk about Lois Lane’s presence in the film, but those details have not been confirmed by the studio yet.
For the role of Ursa, British actress Alice Eve (The Raven), and German-native Diane Kruger (Inglorious Basterds) are at the top of the list. Rosamund Pike (Barney’s Version) was in line, but has since accepted an offer for Clash of the Titans 2. Last week, Comic Book Movie added Jessica Biel (The A-Team) to the rumor mill, revealing that Snyder sat down with the actress at dinner to perhaps discuss her options for the film.
Also, SlashFilm contributed to the rumors with this slew of names: Kristen Stewart (who’s likely to sign on for Snow White and the Huntsman), Rachel McAdams (who’s just wrapped on Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris), Dianna Agron (who may be too young for the part, but is headed for more lead roles after I Am Number Four), Malin Akerman (who just landed the title role in Inferno: A Linda Lovelace Story), Olivia Wilde (Tron, Cowboys & Aliens), Kristen Bell (Scream 4), Lake Bell (How to Make It in America), and Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World– who may also be too young to fill such big shoes).
And it just came out that the very troubled Lindsay Lohan is in talks for the role as well. Does anyone really see any of that coming to fruition? Note: She recently lost her role in the Lovelace biopic because of her antics, so let’s hope that the following info is strictly on the rumor level. Monsters & Critics references a TMZ report that “she will play ‘a major character’ in the new film and she will be meeting with execs on the film soon. Lohan is ‘dying to show people again how talented she is.’” However, this news also comes right when the Mean Girls actress is facing felony grand theft charges over a necklace that she was supposedly loaned. I doubt that any studio would back the hot mess.
Anyway… Of course with this list of rising ingénues, a-hem and Lohan, there is no reliable confirmation, but perhaps one of the Bells (Kristen or Lake) or last year’s very underestimated Golden Globe nominee Kruger would be the most suitable choices.
While Variety also threw Kruger’s name into the mix, it was just recently announced that the former model will star as Marie Antoinette in Benoit Jacquot’s French Revolution drama Les Adieux a la Reine. What are your thoughts on these choices? Who would be your pick? Do you think omitting Lois Lane would serve the movie well?
