It’s been a long time since we’ve seen two-time Oscar nominee Winona Ryder (Black Swan) take top billing in a high profile film. Her latest starring role in The Letter certainly offers the goods for a big comeback while alongside James Franco (Oz: The Great and Powerful) and under the direction of Jay Anania (Shadows and Lies).
Here’s the official synopsis for the thriller: “A playwright (Ryder) begins to mentally unravel while preparing her latest work for the stage. She is plagued by dreams and visions of being watched, while also falling under the spell of her charismatic new leading man (Franco). As the curtain call grows closer, she finds she can no longer decide if she is at the center of a manipulative plot or simply losing her grip on reality.”
Also starring in the movie are Josh Hamilton (J. Edgar), Marin Ireland (Hope Springs), and Dagmara Dominczyk (Phantom).
The now 40-year-old Ryder still looks wide-eyed and alluring in this dramatic role, but with some thematic ties to her previously successful effort in Black Swan, the film could fall under the radar and end up forgettable. The film is set to premiere on VOD with no official release date.
