As if three hours of cursing, drug use, and sex wasn’t enough, The Daily Mail is confirming that a four hour version of The Wolf of Wall Street will be released on DVD and Blu-ray later this year.
However, producers Joey McFarland and Riza Aziz want to make sure everyone knows that the 3 hour version in theaters contains the most essential bits of debauchery. Still, another hour of insanity, even a little milder, is worth the lengthy runtime.
I’m still surprised that Martin Scorsese never put out an extended version of Gangs of New York (one would think a four hour runtime would be more appropriate for a historical epic than a Wall Street drama), but perhaps the fight over the cut with Harvey Weinstein soured him on making a longer version. Anyway, I hope Scorsese’s longtime editor Thelma Schoonmaker is the one editing the longer cut of The Wolf of Wall Street… it wouldn’t be the same without her touch.
