Another year, another Woody Allen movie. For fans of his one-of-a-kind film “voice,” that’s good news. As usual, Allen has been hard at work on his latest film with as much secrecy as possible in the social media age.
But Sony Pictures Classics has revealed the title of Allen’s next film in its announcement that it will distribute the it. Titled Blue Jasmine, the film stars Cate Blanchett, Sally Hawkins (Jane Eyre), Alec Baldwin (To Rome with Love), Bobby Cannavale, Peter Sarsgaard (Lovelace), Michael Emerson (TV’s Person of Interest), and comedians Louis C.K. and Andrew Dice Clay. Though partially set in Allen’s native New York City, much of the film is set in San Francisco, as Alissa revealed the plot back in August:
“a wealthy woman who finds herself broke and in San Francisco, living with her sister and downsizing her life. She eventually meets a man in the Bay Area who could solve her financial problems, but she first needs to discover who she is and, more importantly, accept San Francisco as her home.”
This will be the sixth Allen film released by Sony Pictures Classics after From Rome With Love, the Oscar-winning Midnight in Paris, You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger, Whatever Works, Sweet and Lowdown. Blue Jasmine will likely have a late 2013 release.
