Look like I spoke too soon when I mentioned World War Z could potentially have a panel at SDCC this year. Reports have just come out that Max Brooks’ film adaptation of his popular book needs a whopping 7 weeks worth of re-shoots. I don’t think Angelina Jolie is going to be happy about this.
Brad Pitt is heading back to Budapest to begin re-shooting the zombie apocalypse film which Marc Foster is directing. It is not uncommon for films to go back and re-shoot a scene here or there or, hell, even with The Avengers a few weeks before the film hit theaters in the U.S the cast went back in and filmed one more scene. This issue with WWZ however is that seven weeks is a bit excessive and if they really need almost 2 full months for re-shoots, it leaves me a bit concerned.
Now this could end up being a good thing or it could mean very bad things to come. The film has already been moved from its December 2012 release date to a more suitable June 21, 2013 date which makes more sense. What I’m hoping is that Max Brooks saw a rough copy of the film along with some studio heads and they basically told Foster to go back and fix it.
As long as they get the film done correctly and it follows the way of the book, I don’t think the re-shoots will be an issue. In light of this bit of information, I no longer think WWZ will be making an appearance at SDCC this year. This is a bit of a let down but understandable. Do us proud Foster, do us proud!
