Reign of Assassins Trailer (Jianyu Jianghu)

reign of assassins poster
Check out the new trailer for the upcoming Chao-Bin Su (silk)/John Woo (Red Cliff) film, Reign of Assasins (Jian Yu, Jianyu Jianghu), starring my favorite female martial artist, Michelle Yeoh, as well as Woo-sung Jung (The Good, The Bad, and the Weird), Barbie Hsu, Kelly Lin, and Xueqi Wang. The film is being produced by both John Woo and Terence Chang (Face/Off, Red Cliff) so expect some pretty amazing fight scenes. Find out more about the film and check out the trailer after the jump.

The film is going to be released in China in September 2010 while its release in HK will be in October. The Weinstein Co. has picked up the North American rights to the film.

The trailer itself comes off as a romantic action story about an assassin (Michelle Yeoh) trying to get out of the game but, as we all know, that is very difficult when you just so happen to take a blood oath saying that you can never leave the elite group. Although there are some cool aspects to the action in the trailer, I wasn’t immediately impressed like I usually am with these Chinese action films (maybe it’s because Donnie Yen isn’t in it). I think the action choreography will be great but the only way I will be able to tell is if I get to see a better trailer or the film itself.

Below you will find a synopsis containing spoilers and then followed by the trailer.

Possible Spoilers in the following synopsis, skip to trailer if you don’t want to know important details

In 428AD, Bodhi, a Southern India prince became a Buddhist monk and set off for China, earning a hallowed reputation as a mystical martial artist. Following his death, his remains mysteriously disappeared.

Hundreds of years later, Zhang, a high-ranking court official, is assassinated by Drizzle. Zhang’s son Jingxiu, whilst mourning his father’s death, is assailed by a group assassins. They leave him for dead, but somehow he survives and escapes their clutches.

Drizzle, a talented warrior herself, finds herself in possession of Bodhi’s remains, and begins her quest to return them to their rightful resting place at Yunhe Temple. The Black Stone, a team of deadly assassins who employed Drizzle, are also after the remains and the powerful secret they hold. To hide from The Black Stone, Drizzle undergoes drastic facial surgery and changes her name to Zeng Jing (Michelle Yeoh). She flees to Beijing, where she meets and falls in love with Jiang, soon to become her husband.

After a confrontation in Beijing, Zeng Jing’s identity is uncovered and both she and Jiang must flee for their lives. As Zeng Jing kills off members of the gang while they are on the run, she quickly realizes Jiang is actually Jingxiu, and he is seeking to avenge his father’s death. This leads to a lethal triangle and a fight to death between our hero Zeng Jing, Jiang and The Black Stone.

The only question remains who will be the last ones standing to uncover the secret of Bodhi’s remains?

Will the Yogi Bear Trailer Steal Your Pic-a-nic Basket?

| by Alex DiGiovanna | Trailers | View Comments

Yogi Bear Movie Poster 2010
Probably not, but kids will most likely adore this live action/animation hybrid film.   A childhood past time of mine was growing up watching Yogi Bear and loving all of his ridiculous antics just to steal some food.  While I wasn’t opposed to the making of this movie, and may even have been a little bit excited on the inside, I sure wasn’t going to get my hopes up because I know how many of these types of hybrids have failed (ehmm…Alvin and the Chipmunks). Check out my trailer and thoughts after the jump. Read more »

The film looks pretty bad ass and much more fast paced than 300 or The Watchmen yet it still has a significant amount o fimagination behind it. The movie stars Emily Browning, Abbie Cornish, Vanessa Hudgens, Jamie Chung, Jena Malone, Carla Gugino, Jon Hamm, Scott Glenna and Oscar Isaac. Check out hot chicks destroying dragons, giant samurai, and evil men in this action packed trailer after the jump. Read more »

And On The Eighth Day God Said “Show Me the Priest Trailer!”

| by Alex DiGiovanna | Trailers | View Comments

priest movie
So Priest is pretty much Paul Bettany (Legion) killing vampires, fighting bitches, using ninja star like crosses to kill those bitches, and riding a motorcycle like a hero would in the sands of the future.  I know none of you are impressed but when you throw the fact that he is a priest into the picture that is when things start to get a little interesting.  I personally love it when I get to see a bad-ass priest, its almost funny but still wild. The trailer for Priest has a western feel to it so be sure to check it out after the jump.  Read more »

You can’t ‘BLAME’ Me for Posting This Murderous Trailer, Can You?

| by Alex DiGiovanna | Trailers | View Comments

Blame movie-Australia
Blame, the debut film from writer/director Michael Henry, is the story about the perfect revenge fueled murder gone wrong. I know it sounds like that idea has been done before, but I promise this trailer will make you think otherwise. It starts off a bit comical but turns quickly into an exciting thriller that, I am hoping, will find its way across the Pacific and into American theaters everywhere. Check out the captivating trailer after the jump. Read more »

Downey Jr. and Galifianakis Are Ready for Their ‘Due Date’ Trailer

| by Alex DiGiovanna | Trailers | View Comments

due date
Todd Phillips, director of The Hangover, is ready to bring us his next comedy spectacle entitled Due Date. The film stars Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galifianakis in a road trip comedy about a strung out father-to-be (Downey) forced to hitch a ride with an aspiring actor (Galifianakis). So just imagine the impatience ot Downey with the dimwittedness of Alan from The Hangover…except as an Actor instead of possible molester. I’m excited to see where this movie goes because the trailer was pretty funny so check it out now after the jump. Read more »

The ‘City Under Siege’ Trailer is Ready to Explode in Your Face

| by Alex DiGiovanna | News, Trailers | View Comments

city under siege
The new trailer for City Under Siege was recently released and, I have to say, it has a Crank 2 superhero feel to it. The movie stars Aaron Kwok and Shu Qi, and is directed by Benny Chan. This sci-fi action film, set in Hong Kong in the year 2015 “centers on how Sunny (Kwok) accidentally gains super powers after being poisoned by biological gas. He becomes a superhero and falls in love with TV anchor Angel (Shu).” (Thanks Global Times.) This sounds like something inspried by the ninja turtles, doesn’t it? Hit the jump to watch the trailer and to find out more about City Under Siege. Read more »

NYAFF 2010: Merantau Movie Review (Indonesia)

| by Alex DiGiovanna | Movie Reviews, Trailers | View Comments

merantau iko uwais
Now I’ve recently been going through a martial arts craze and the need for me to watch high octane ass kicking has skyrocketed to the point where I’m almost willing to go out and learn how to do it myself. I want to blame Tony Jaa’s original Ong Bak for this but I think it really traces back to Jet Li in The One, just brutally destroying those little minion bitches and his evil self. Jump back to today and now the fighting style I am following is Silat Harimau thanks to Iko Uwais, the star of Merantau and the first real action movie to come out of Indonesia. So if you like explosive martial arts and guys like Jet Li, Donnie Yen, and Tony Jaa then you need to hit the jump for my review so that you can now have another star to love. Read more »
