Well I can’t agree with Pulp Fiction. I think it was fresh, witty, and insightful. There are flaws in it, yes, but I think it should have won best picture. Forrest Gump was definitely not better.

But Spider-Man 2 is overrated. It’s not one of the worst superhero movies ever made. It’s pretty good. But that’s it. I’ve been looking for people who share my opinion on it and it seems almost no one does. My biggest problems with it are the over-the-top melodramatic staging, music, and cinematography in the scenes that were meant to be dramatic which to me drained the energy from the scenes and made them seem like a parody of comic books and superhero movies, the one-dimensional cartoon caricatures that pass for “characters,” and of course everything to do with Mary Jane. Kirsten Dunst is not a good actress and she’s terrible in all these movies including this one. Mary Jane herself is insufferable. Peter Parker is a superhero. Why is he putting up with all her crap? Move on and get a chick who appreciates you and is not up her own posterior all the time. Come on, man. Peter’s not blameless either though. He’s written like a lovesick puppy and I’ve never liked Toby Maguire as Spider-Man. I just think he’s not good in the role. The characterization of Doc Ock is inconsistent and really doesn’t make a lot of sense. I get that the idea is the metal arms are driving him crazy but there’s no consistency to it. I can’t make sense of his motivations throughout the movie, arms or not. I’m not a person who has trouble following movies so that’s not it. It’s the writing. I don’t think it’s a bad movie, I just think it’s not nearly as good as people remember.
